A little note from the owner:

Hi Marcia,
Loghan continues to be on a roll.  We’re just back from the trials down at Springfield and our FIRST TIME in the Utility B ring.  My goal was to just go on a fact-finding mission to see if both of us, collectively and individually, could handle the stress of that show site with it’s thousands of people and dogs making sooooo much noise, tough ring setups, roll-out matting, the B classes, and on and on.  Not only did we qualify, but we also took 4th Place AND GOT Loghan’s FIRST OTCH POINT in a class of 32 dogs!!!!  When you consider the incredible teams and talents with their OTCH dogs that routinely compete in Utility B, it’s nothing short of an amazing feat.  But the best part of the day happened as I was scenting Loghan’s metal article – the judge said to me at that point that I had a truly great dog – and a very happy dog which she really appreciated seeing.  THAT was the best reward of all.

Congratulations to ... Bailey, Sadie, Colby, John & Kathy...

Nick is a big, gorgeous, goofy boy with a heart of Gold .
He even thinks frogging is fun at our house in Vermont,
he swims thinking he is saving the frogs,
gets one in his mouth, swims with it back to shore
and then opens his mouth and they hop out and go on their way
with a little rib bit saying thank you.
Then repeats the process over and over.
He is so silly and we just love him.

Just had to share this amazing story with you.....

Glory had a rough start to last weekend.  Wednesday evening, she was stung in the face by a bee.  By Thursday morning, she was so swollen, she resembled a sharpe!  Of course, I rushed her to the vet (probably faster than I've ever rushed either of my children to the pediatrician!) where she was given a shot of epinephrine, a shot of benedryl and a shot of something for discomfort.  By Friday morning, she was pretty much back to normal and we started off for our New Hampshire camping weekend.  Friday night, after digging several holes in our campsite and moving several rocks from the bank of the river, she lay by the campfire as though posing for a Hallmark card. Saturday, Glory romped around in the Pemigawassett River for most of the morning.  Then, we went over to Little Squam Lake.   Glory was the happiest dog on earth.

She swam all afternoon....even attempting to swim after a loon and a duck.

At the end of the day, we called the kids and Glory in to the beach.  One little 4 year old girl remained on the diving dock which was about 150 feet off shore.

Although she had a "heads up life jacket on, she was afraid to jump in and swim to shore.  Several older kids attempted to talk her in but she refused.  She finally said she would swim back if my 15 year old son accompanied her.  He went back into the water and swam out to the diving dock.   Glory swam beside him.  When they got out to the dock, Anthony told the child to jump into the water.  As soon as she did, Glory lunged forward, put  her head under water, and when she came up, she held the strap of the life jacket in her mouth.

Keeping her head turned to the side and tilted upward, Glory held the strap and part of the life jacket in her mouth and swam with the child toward shore.  She did not stop until the child was able to touch bottom.

Then Glory walked beside her onto the beach!!!!!!  It was incredible to see Glory's natural instinct!   Everyone was impressed.  So, the weekend that started out with a low for Glory ended with a definite high!  (Lassie has nothin' on our Glory!)    Gina

On Tuesday, the School Committee meeting went to the dogs.

Three therapy dogs work in Andover elementary schools, and two were present, as their handlers gave a brief report on the good work the canines do for and with students.

The normally serious tone of the meeting was lightened as Superintendent Claudia Bach introduced the dogs as "Andover's three employees with four legs."

"They don't cost much, just a few dog bones every once in a while," Bach said.

Mandy, a cocker spaniel, works at Sanborn Elementary School, and Murray, a golden retriever, works at High Plain Elementary.

Andover High School senior Kyla McRoy takes her dog Saffron to West Elementary as a special senior project. McRoy and Saffron demonstrated a game they play at West Elementary, where a student commands Saffron to find a dog treat hidden underneath one of three cups.

McRoy's work with Saffron at is also part of earning her Girl Scout Gold Star award, she said.

Murray is High Plain adjustment counselor Janet Yedinak's dog and has been visiting the counseling office three times a week for four years. Yedinak showed School Committee members Murray's security badge with his photo on it.

Yedinak, McRoy and Sanborn Principal Patty Barrett agreed the dogs help students with empathy, language development, self-confidence and a myriad of other social, developmental and emotional issues

We are also so proud of Judy and Starquest's St. Nick TDI, CGC "Nick"...
